So it has been more than 2 years since I last posted anything to this blog..my bad! It's been crazy the past couple years, but especially the past year and a half as I began a new job back in an industry I love - cleaning up our environment! As I write this update, I find myself in an office in Oak Ridge, TN, which definitely is HOME for me now. I do enjoy this new position and the future opportunities that I have going into the new decade.
My travels have taken me not only around the continental United States, but to Alaska as well. I've been there four times in the past year as I position the company for a strategic opportunity there. Talk about a cool place to go. Now I have to say...going there in February, well, not my choice, but that was when my first trip took place. Many asked me if it's really dark all day long then. It's very odd, but it never really gets truly dark - like the "dark of the night." It is more like a very long dusk period. The sun does come out, but only along the horizon and only for a very few hours a day.
My three other trips occurred in April, June, and August, each time, progressively more light. The food is amazing there. Of course, seafood is abundant, but if you've never had it, you must try reindeer sausage. It's a lot like a polish sausage and is absolutely delicious.
The terrain ranges from very flat, to rolling hills, to significant mountains, standing tall against the horizon. There was also no lack of wildlife, specifically moose. They are definitely not afraid of people or cars, and can be seen by the roadside, in the back yard, and even at our window in search of food. Kind of glad that last one didn't happen to me, but I was told by others that it is not unusual for them to come up to a window and peer in.
As the new year and new decade approaches, I am excited by the potential growth for the company and for me personally. So stay tuned for more!!!
